Concept 1: Windbreaker

Our first concept is a response to Wellington’s renowned wind. In order to widen potential site selection within Wellington, we propose a wind breaker that consists of two screens that can be revolved around on a runner in the direction of the wind, to protect the plants that are planted in the ‘pod’. Therefore, some form of planter boxes or alike, will inhabit the space based on a site by site discretion. For the purposes of the renders and subsequent gif, we have decided to just leave the screens as a solid. However, we envision these screens as being a semi translucent material such as plastic film (polyethylene) or some sort of poly-carbonate. In turn, this will require less structural support as it is lighter, whilst not restricting the essential light the plants need to grow, albeit being diffused light.
